TRAVEL DAY 76 - Cape Vincent to Clayton July 16, 2023 2.02 Hours/16.6 Miles     Two days in Cape Vincent and the crew of Pau Hana was ready to move on. We waited for the rain to let up as it was a short ride to Clayton. The sky was overcast and the drizzle continued so we pushed farther up the St. Lawrence River. Clayton, NY     As we neared Clayton the sky cleared and the sun came out and we pulled into the basin at Clayton Harbor Municipal Marina. Most of the Poker Run boats had left with the few remaining warming their engines for a loud departure. The Antique Boat Museum     We walked this much larger town with a terrific waterfront and a lot of activity.  It was around 1 pm so we hiked to the Wood Boat Brewery. It was a suitable stop for the navigator who enjoyed a Gluten free pizza. After a light lunch we walked to the Antique Boat Museum. We didn't tour the massive facility but stuck our heads in the front door and looked around some. "Mu...

TRAVEL DAY 75 - Oswego to Cape Vincent July 14, 2023 5.72 Hours/48.4 Miles     After 2 days in Oswego, we waived the port town goodbye and motored past the lighthouse and the long protective stone breakwater that had huge waves crashing over it yesterday. We headed north toward the border of New York and Canada and the St. Lawrence River. Oswego Lighthouse     We immediately came upon a large group of boats fishing for Salmon on the calm waters. They trolled downriggers with heavy weights in the 80 + feet of water that continued to deepen to over 400 feet on our route. Trolling for Salmon     It was pretty much a straight shot north/northeast to the St. Lawrence River and the 1000 Islands. The 1000 Island region is an archipelago of 1864 islands that straddle the US/Canada border in the St. Lawrence River. To count as one of the Thousand Islands, it must have at least 2 living trees. St. Lawrence River      We rounded Tibbetts Point an...

TRAVEL DAY 72 - Little Falls to Sylvan Beach July 9, 2023 6.71 Hours/48.9 Miles     Another long travel day broken up with 5 Locks on the tail end of our Erie Canal portion. The first 3 locks brought us up 57' in elevation, while the last 2 brought us back down 50.3' and to our final destination for the day. As we said goodbye to the Mohawk River in Little Falls, the Erie canal continues on and is narrower and straighter. A very narrow lock on the Erie Canal     We ended in Sylvan Beach at a free wall (we love free) with no electricity but we are self sufficient with a generator and enough battery capacity to get us easily through the night. We are now at the edge of Oneida Lake. The lake feeds the Oneida River, a tributary of the Oswego River, which flows into Lake Ontario and the gateway to Canada. We were too early for the Sylvan Beach Pirate Festival     We ended the day with our traveling partner Ottyssey, a couple from Louisville. KY. We tied u...
